Congratulations to Elizabeth Brouwer for publishing the second part of her dissertation research in the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy.

In the study, the authors examine the impact of “copay coupons” – and a health system that facilitates their use – on patient behavior and adherence to specialty medicine. While successful in dramatically reducing patient out-of-pocket costs, we found that the availability of “copay coupons” was not associated with prescription refill behavior in our population, suggesting payers may consider tools other than cost-sharing to influence patient behavior.
